Here are some things you should know when buying a home projector.

  • Resolution

One of the things to look into when researching the projector that you need is resolution. Different resolutions on projectors can be found on the market. 1080p and 4K UHD are resolutions that are advised. It is also important to make sure that the lumen range is good, so it should be between 1500-3000 lumens.

  • Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is the ratio between how bright the white image is compared to the black image. A higher ratio is going to allow you to see more detail. It’s important that the contrast ratio has at least 1,500:1 or higher to ensure that the image doesn’t look faint and washed out.  

  • Placement

Lens shift is important if you want to change the angle or height of the projector. If you plan on buying a cheaper projector, plan to position your projector closer to the wall you’ll be projecting on.

  • Light source

You’ll probably see different types of light sources while searching for a projector: laser, LED and lamp. The most common technology is the ultra-high pressure lamps. It’s the most inexpensive option while being the brightest type of light on the market. Other sources are more expensive and are not as bright, so we would suggest choosing a projector with a lamp as the source of light.

Vintage 35mm film photography has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years. Film cameras capture really unique pictures, but it’s good to know what you are getting yourself into when buying a film camera.

Let’s look over the pros and cons of vintage photography.

Pros

  •  It gives your picture a really unique style

All vintage film cameras give you that grainy vintage look that is really different from digital photography. 

  •  Less editing required compared to digital cameras

One of the perks of taking pictures with a vintage camera is that you don’t have to edit your pictures. The camera itself basically does the job for you. The colors are more vibrant most of the time and the grain gives the picture a really nice finish.

  •  No need to charge your camera or use batteries

Vintage cameras don’t require power. This can be a big advantage if you are on the road and you don’t have access to power.

  • Easy to use

Most film cameras are easy to use on the automatic setting. You can easily achieve a really nice look with almost no effort.

  • You can’t see the picture after it’s been taken

Unlike other modern cameras, you can’t look at the picture you have taken and retake another one if you don’t like the result. 

  •  You have a limited number of pictures

Vintage cameras require 35mm film. You can usually take up to 36 pictures on a 35mm film. This can be a big inconvenience if you usually take multiple pictures at a time to get the perfect picture.

  • It can get expensive

While the cost of the camera itself is pretty cheap, the costs don’t stop there. You have to buy film, which can also be expensive. Expect to pay between 10$ to 50$ per film. Additionally, you need to get your pictures developed which can also get pricey.

  •  Film cameras are heavier than digital cameras

Carrying a heavy film camera can be annoying for some people, especially if it is brought on long hikes. If lightweight gear is important for you and you plan on carrying it a lot with you, digital cameras have a lot more lightweight options.

Are we filming yet?

It’s a common phrase used by non-production companies. First, there’s no film involved anymore. It is all done using digital video. That’s a good thing because it means it’s more accessible and something we can meld into the right product. When it is time to get the process underway, you’ll hear the phrase “shoot” used. That’s the most common term used to start the recording process.

What is a videographer?

Today, you won’t work with a producer but a videographer. This is a person that operates the camera itself. This professional is one part of the larger production team.

All of that equipment

There’s much of it. Here’s a rundown of a few common terms you’ll hear:

  • Sticks – these are the tripods used to hold up the camera.
  • Sound bites – these are specific phrases or terms we pull in to create the film.
  • B-roll – this term describes additional footage that will go along with what we’re filming at that point to create a finished product.
  • Diffusion – a transparent sheet that helps to reduce the brightness of light.
  • Supers – this term describes the text or graphic that appears during a video presentation.
  • Cutaway shot – this is a shot that breaks away from the continuously filming shot and allows for the inserting of something else before going back to the continuous shot.

What does all of this mean to you, the company looking to have a video produced? Not necessarily much. In most cases, you do not have to play a significant role in the video production process, though your ideas are always gathered to ensure the final result is what you need and want it to be. Today, digital video production focuses on creating a stunning product in the most cost effective manner. New technology always brings photographers and video makers challenges. Is it time to switch to the latest technology or is it still in its infancy? One of the biggest changes to today’s businesses is the use of 4k technology. Also known as Ultra HD, it does offer some outstanding benefits and features. It takes only a few minutes to see the difference in the final product.

On the other hand, HD video is still pretty outstanding. And, not many people today have a TV that can handle 4k quality. Is it worth making the switch? For many of today’s users, it really can offer a variety of benefits and a significant upgrade from 1080 pixels.

The Images Are Stunningly Sharp

This is perhaps the biggest benefit users see and it is noticeable right away. The images are clear and sharp with 4k. It’s improved from traditional HD. That’s important to know especially since, when you are shooting in 4k and decide to downsample to HD, you still will see the improvement in how sharp your images look. In other words, the quality of your images greatly improves.

It’s Easy to Change Your Shots

Cropping your video or shots is rather easy to do. If you are already using HD, you know that cropping is difficult at best. However, with Ultra HD, it is much easier. Your shot will not suffer. In fact, you may find that this gives you added functionality. Who doesn’t want to have the ability to crop after the shot?

Still Frame Access Is Improved

Another interested update and functionality benefit of Ultra HD is that you can capture still frames very effectively. When you pull still frames from HD, it is never going to create that crisp look you want. That’s not the case with 4k. The shots look fabulous. There are some users who actually are willing to print from 4k, in fact, because of the quality and crispness of the video.

Stabilization Is More Profound

Another big benefit to users is that it is possible to stabilize footage you are taking and it will not create a significant impact on your video. On-location stabilizing of shots is hard to do without a crew of people to help you when you are using HD video. The camera is always going to shake at least somewhat. However, when you upgrade to 4k, this improves significantly. It is possible to zoom in and stabilize the video. Even better, no one will know what you are up to as there is no difference in the quality of the video.

Two Cameras No Longer Are Necessary

With 4k, it is possible to replace the traditional two camera setup (which you are probably using for your shots) and instead go with one. Because it is possible to zoom in so easily and you don’t lose any quality when you do, there’s no real need to worry about a two camera setup any longer.

Is it time to make the move to 4k? Only you can decide this based on the actual quality you need. However, it is still a new technology and not everyone is going to see the benefit due to the lack of 4k TVs. On the other hand, these are hitting shelves fast.
